WNAP Throwback Raft Race Shirt
WNAP Throwback Raft Race Shirt
The year was 1974. There was the White River. There was Broad Ripple park. There was beer, music, and of course rafts.
the WNAP "The Vulture" Raft Race and Rock Show in Broad Ripple Park was akin to the Indy 500's Snake Pit but with a milder vibe. Tens of thousands of people with shaggy haircuts and cutoff jeans gathered for an outdoor rock concert, complete with beer and perhaps some illicit drugs. The centerpiece was of course the Raft Race, where imaginative, albeit not entirely seaworthy, rafts designed by young participants floated down the White River for over two miles. The gathering of like-minded individuals at Broad Ripple Park made it a significant cultural event in Indianapolis. The event's heyday was in the mid-1970s, with minimal arrests despite the large crowds.
The last official race was held in 1983, marked by significant changes and restrictions. Today, this sort of event would be unthinkable. When did people get so soft? I say bring it back! At least we can relive the memories in this T-shirt which was lovingly recreated from an original event design. Enjoy!
Printed on super soft and comfy blended material.
